Lucis 3.0 – Wireless Phone Charging

The new Lucis 3.0 product line featuring the Simple & Twist series is outfitted with a wondrous technique: The lamps are able to wirelessly charge your phone.

You heard it right, the new additions to the Lucis roster are able to wirelessly charge your phone. But what does this really mean and why did the designers choose to add this mechanic? read more about it here:

Wireless charging has been somewhat of a hype lately, there are plenty of products out there that claim to have wireless charging capabilities; but do they really?
Wireless charging or inductive charging (for the more technical term) is a transferral of energy between 2 objects, this is done through the use of an electromagnetic field that transfers energy between the objects through electromagnetic induction. Energy is sent through an inductive coupling to an electrical device, which can then use it to charge batteries or run the device. There are many standards of wireless charging that try to define and characterize the actual specifics, one of these that is being thrown around a lot is QI charging.

QI  (from the Chinese word for energy) charging is a standard that describes wireless charging through the use of induction up to a distance of 4 centimeters, this distance is ideal for the purpose of wirelessly charging your phone which is why we decided to strive for this standard in the new Lucis 3.0 series featuring the Simple & Twist series. The lamp can be placed on the phone to be charged, the lamp is still able to light up any setting while it charges your phone.

”We strove towards creating a lamp that sets the mood, we combined the experiences we had in creating the Lucis 1.0 line and the Lucis 2.1 bamboo lamps with the notion that people should be able to enjoy a good conversation or a nice dinner out without constantly looking at their phone” says head of design; Simon Koop, ” We want people to be able to set the mood and get rewarded for it by sharing both power and light with the people around them.
